no reason to smile

When I was little, adults used to tell me, "Meredith, smile!!" and I would think, "Why???" is someone taking a picture? Did someone say or do something funny? Did someone say something nice? If not, how do you expect me to just smile for no reason? This has been the case for me all my life--I always have this serious or expressionless look on my face unless something "makes" me smile. Until Friday.

I was driving home from the library. I was stopped at a traffic light, and I found myself smiling--for no reason!!! And not just a little grin for a second, but a big smile for a long time! This was a really big moment for me. I was trying to figure out why I was smiling and I realized that there was no logical explanation to this smile; in fact, I shouldn't have been smiling because I was stuck at a traffic light for an extended period of time. But I was smiling without cause, expect perhaps that I am really very happy. I hope I can smile "for no reason" more often because it feels good.

I totally know what you mean. When I shut my mouth it almost looks like I am pouting or just quite serious. So, I have to make an effort to sort of smile more so it doesn't look like I am an unpleasant person.
That said, we played this crazy piece called "Godzilla Eats Las Vegas" and certain players (me) had to yell "God-zill-a!" really loudly. I practiced in my car when I was driving to school and it was hilarious. I recommend it to bring about a fast laugh.
