I finished my last rotation today. Now I just need to take a few exams pertaining to the internship, then I will take the big RD exam this summer. Meanwhile I am applying to jobs for dietitian positions in hospitals. The key here is that they will actually pay me to work. I have found this to be very encouraging.
My preceptors at the dialysis clinic took me out to eat today to a hole-in-the-wall very yummy Chinese restaurant. It looked a little bit questionable, but the food was good. I had a nice tofu and vegetable dish. And of course for my last day I had to have a funny incident with a patient, as follows:
Dietitian: This is Meredith, she is going to tell you about your labs, and this is the last day of her internship.
Patient: Oh, so you're in school?
Me: Well, not past tomorrow.
Patient: is your internship through the University of Houston?
Me: No, Prairie View.
Patient: Prairie View!?! But you're white! So are you Cajun or French or anything?
Me: No.
Patient: So you're just plain white!!!
Me: (turning red) yes, I'm just plain white.
Patient: Well where did you do your undergrad?
Me: (Thinking: here goes..) Brigham Young University
Patient: So you're Mormon AND white!!!
Me: Yes.
Patient: I was friends with Steve Young, I spent some time with his family. They didn't even notice I was black, they just treated me like one of them. (Patient proceeded to discuss BYU sports with me).
Anyway, it was pretty funny. I'm glad they treated him like one of them. That's the way people deserve to be treated. It doesn't matter what color you are. You're a child of God no matter what. In conclusion, I am "Mormon" (or rather a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) and plain ol' white.

Hahaha. Funny story. I totally agree: "You are are child of God no matter what." You're such a great person Meredith! I approve of you being paid for your work. :)

That's hilarious! ... and strange. Yea for getting paid for working! Good luck!
That is so neat. I might have gotten lost when he started talking about sports. I've been trying so hard to keep up with the NCAA we talk to Justin's friends, but I'm a bit retarded in the sports department!
