Today at the internship I worked as a cook. It was more fun than sitting in the office. The head cook was impressed at how fast I got everything done, which is funny because I always thought of myself as a slow cook (not to be confused with a slow cooker). Anyway, I did beef sausage, pork sausage links, French toast, pancakes, and chicken dumplings. This was the first time I had seen dumplings--I guess it's a "S'th'rn thang".

I am working on two trainings: one is proper use of knives, and the other is hand washing. I will present these trainings to the employees next week. It is funny because these folks have been in the business much longer than I, but I have to teach them how to use a knife. I have an idea for a fun way to present hand washing, but I don't know how fun I can get with the knives. Maybe I could bring in some Japanese Knife Artist, and say "don't try this in the kitchen." Or make some cool apple bird and say, "this is what can be done when handling a knife properly." I don't know--I just don't want it to be the next cure for insomnia. Any ideas?

I like your Japanese knife idea-lol. I don't know anything about it so I'm no help. The only thing I know about hand washing is that your supposed to sing Happy Birthday two times through and then you've washed the proper length of time. Anyway.

Are you still a vegetarian? Would you like us to make a vegetarian version of whatever we're cooking, or does it not matter? Thanks!

Hi Meredith - tis the season for Halloween - I bet you could find a fake knife that you could make it look as if it was sticking out of your head you could hot glue part of one to a headband - and come out wearing it as a fun catchy start to your presentation. It could be 'what not to do' and then you could have your apple swan as what you can do when you know how to use your tools properly. I'm sure you'll think of something fun and clever.
